ANSYS Anwenderkonferenz
In Kassel findet die diesjährige Anwenderkonferenz von ANSYS-Produkten statt. Die ANSYS Conference & das 30. CADFEM Users´ Meeting sind ein Spiegelbild dessen, was Ingenieure heute mit hochmodernen Simulationswerkzeugen in den Bereichen Strömungsmechanik, Strukturmechanik, Elektromagnetik sowie Systeme & Multiphysik leisten. Anwender aus Industrie, Forschung und Lehre zeigen in über 200 Beiträgen den erfolgreichen Einsatz von Simulationstechnologie in verschiedenen Branchen und physikalischen Bereichen.
Zu den Schwerpunktbranchen, denen am ersten Veranstaltungstag eigene Sessions gewidmet sind, gehören in diesem Jahr Solar & Windkraft, Elektronik im Automobil, Werkzeugmaschinen, Städte & Gebäude, Biomechanik& Medizin sowie Lehre, Forschung und Ausbildung.
Paul Mathis vom EBC stellt die Aktivitäten des Lehrstuhls im Bereich CFD vor. Die beiden Forschungsgebiete des EBC im Bereich der Strömungssimulation sind Raumluftströmungen und Strömungen in Komponenten. Nach einem Überblick über die CFD-Aktivitäten im Allgemeinen wird für jedes Forschungsgebiet jeweils ein Beispiel etwas näher erläutert. Für die Raumluftströmungen wird die Strömung und der thermische Komfort in einem modernen Flugzeugcockpit vorgestellt, für die Komponenten die Homogenisierung der Volumenströme in einer Filterbank.
Sebua 2012
Four members of the Institute for Energy Efficient Buildings and Indoor Climate will participate at Sebua 2012 in Kusadasi, Turkey. This international symposium with the topic Sustainable Energy in Buildings and Urban Areas is organized by the International Centre for Heat and Mass Transfer (ICHMT). Ana Constantin and Johannes Fuetterer will present their results as part of the European Union project “PEBBLE” (Positive Energy Buildings thru Better Control Decisions), Kan Chen will talk about Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation for Home Energy Systems and Michael Adolph will share some information about room temperature control with adaptive algorithms.
BauSim 2012
Marcus Fuchs, Ana Constantin, Kan Chen, Sebastian Stinner, Paul Mathis, Nina Kopmann und Michael Adolph participate in this year’s BauSIM 2012. BauSIM 2012 takes place between 26.-28. September 2012 at the University of Arts in Berlin. The conference’s focus this year is “Building Performance Simulation on the Scales Building element, Room, Building, City district” (http://bausim2012.ibpsa-germany.org).
BauSIM is organized by the German speaking chapter of IBPSA. IBPSA is the International Building Performance Simulation Association, an organization for practitioners, scientists and developers in the area of thermo-energetic, ecological and building equipment simulations (http://ibpsa.inf.bauwesen.tu-muenchen.de/index.php/Hauptseite/en).

First Netherlands-North Rhine-Westphalian Energy Conference
Hassan Harb and Rita Streblow participate in the 1st Netherlands-North Rhine-Westphalian Energy Conference. Rita Streblow presents the research project Dual Demand Side Management.
On the 11th of September research associates of the institute will present the E.ON ERC main building and the test facilities within the technical tour of the conference.

Richtfest des Counter-Entropy-Hauses
Am 15. Juni 2012 präsentierte das Counter-Entropy-Team der RWTH Aachen im Rahmen des Richtfestes zum ersten Mal den Rohbau des Wettbewerbsgebäudes für den diesjährigen Hochschulwettbewerb Solar Decathlon Europe. Im September findet der Solar Decathlon Europe seinen Höhepunkt bei der Wettbewerbsaustragung und öffentlichen Ausstellung in Madrid.
Conference on Energy Storage, Innostock 2012
Corinna Leonhardt, Pooyan Jahangiri and Armin Knels presented their research projects at the Innostock 2012 in Lleida (Spain).
The conference topics were underground thermal energy storage, sensible, latent and thermochemical energy storages as well as electrical storages.
Ringlabor: Einführungsveranstaltung am 03.04. am EBC
Am 03.04.2012 findet die Einführungsveranstaltung zum Ringlabor Alternative Energietechnik am EBC statt. Dort wird die weitere Vorgehensweise des Ringlabors bekannt gegeben. Die Teilnahme zu dieser Veranstaltung ist verpflichtend.

DKV Junior Research Award
Rita Streblow was honored during the "Deutsche Kälte-Klima-Tagung" in Aachen (16. – 18. Nov.) with the DKV junior research award for outstanding scientific achievements with her PhD work „Thermal sensation and comfort model for inhomogenous indoor environments“. The laudatio was given by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dirk Müller.

Eco Friendly House Competition
Pia Auferkorte and Rita Streblow, together with two students from RWTH Aachen University, held a workshop on energy saving and climate adapted design for the Architectural Students at German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech). The GUtech students participate in the Eco Friendly House Competition.
The EBC assists in the development of the energy concept for the planned building.

Johannes Fütterer, Davide Cali, Nina Kopmann, Corinna Leonhardt, Azadeh Badakshani und Pooyan Jahangiri presented current research results at the CISBAT 2011 in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Internal Seminar 2011
EBC held its annual internal seminar on 18.–19.07. in Kylburg, Eifel. The program included various interactive workshops. Three separate workshops were held to discuss organizational issues, teaching, and research activities in general. In addition, the latest state of each project carried out by EBC was presented and discussed in detail by the entire group.
As in previous years, the entertainment program started with the evening barbecue, followed by a table tennis tournament and EBC's highly professional table soccer championship and ended with an “after midnight” party.

Energy Engineering Day
As part of the introduction to the specialisation Energy Engineering bachelor students visited the EBC test hall.
They learned about current research areas of our institute and they visited different test facilities at EBC.
3rd International Workshop on Aircraft System Technologies
Prof. Müller speaks at the AST 2001 - 3rd International Workshop on Aircraft System Technologies - on the topic of "Application of a Displacement Ventilation System for Air Distribution in Aircraft Cabins".
Participation at RWTH HALLENFUSSBALL CUP
The center team „ERC Energielücke“ will participate at the RWTH indoor soccer cup on Saturday, 26th of March, where we are going to dramatically improve on last year's 3rd place.
Karneval at the EBC
The beginning of the age-old custom of Karneval, the fifth season of the year, was dutifully celebrated at the EBC. Under the theme "Snow White and the 20 dwarfs", the staff was singing, dancing and swaying until the sun went down...

Prof. Müller holds a speech titled "Ganzheitliche Ansätze mit Modelica" at the informative event concerning the DVGW-innovation campaign.

Prof. Müller holds a speech at the research symposium "Gebäude der Zukunft", titled "Gebäude- und Anlagensimulation: Objektorientierte Simulation mit Modelica", and he takes part in the panel discussion "Das Nur-Strom-Haus als Zukunftsmodell?".
8th International Conference on System Simulation in Buildings
Michael Adolph and Kristian Huchtemann attend the conference on system simulation in buildings. It takes place every four years and is organised by the Thermodynamics Laboratory of the University of Liege, Belgium.
KRdL-Expertenforum "Gerüche im Innenraum"
Am 25. November findet in Bonn das erste Expertenforum der "Kommision Reinhaltung der Luft im VDI und DIN-Normenausschuss" KRdL im Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Naturschutz und Reaktorsicherheit statt.
Prof. Müller wird dort einen Vortrag zum Thema "Geruchsarme Baumaterialien für energieeffiziente Gebäude" halten und später auch die Podiumsdiskussion moderieren.

In this years student's session, Pooyan Jahangri presents his diploma thesis "Simulation and Comparison of Different District Heating Networks in Combination with Cogeneration Plants".
Patentreffen
Prof. Müller met his "Patengruppe" of the WS 10/11. The idea of the "Patenschaftsmodell" of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering being that the new students get a benefit in their first semester so that they can have a better start at the university.
Innovative Ventilation Technologies
Peter Matthes gives a speech at an experts' meetings event "Lüftung 2010 - Antworten zur DIN 1946-6" (Ventilation 2010 - Standard DIN 1946-6 Explained, see flyer) organized by the Aachen city information office "altbau plus". His topic is "Innovative Ventilation Technologies - Examples from R&D".
This experts' meetings aims to clarify specific topics regarding the newly issued German industry standard DIN 1946 part 6. Since May 2009 a ventilation concept is explicitly required for newly built houses or old-building renovations. The basics of natural and mechanical ventilation in different forms will be presented to the audience. Additionally, a software tool will be presented at the meeting to assist the HVAC expert in this context.
Series of lectures "Smart Energy"
The institute "Gebäudetechnik" at the faculty for architecture, RWTH Aachen University, starts its annual series of lectures "Smart Energy" on October 27th.
Airbus PhD Day
Rita Streblow was honoured as one of the best speakers at the Airbus PhD Day on October 21st, presenting her work on "Thermal Sensation and Comfort Model for Inhomogeneous Indoor Environments".

Inga Eggers gives a speech at the Workshop Eneff:School "Improved Learning in Energy Efficient School Buildings".
The concomitant project of the research project "Energy Efficient School (EnEff:School)", which is promoted by Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology within the budget of advanced concept "Energy Optimized Building (EnOB)", is aimed at collecting and presenting all activities on the field of energy efficient school retrofit.
EBC-Excursion
On October 1st, the EBC staff went on its annual excursion:
This year's trip started with a visit at the Trox-site in Neukirchen-Vluyn, then it went off heading to Düsseldorf. There, the "Plus-Energiehaus" was thoroughly examinded before the day was brought to an end with a boat ride on the rhine and a short detour into the Old Town of Düsseldorf.

Claudia Kandzia, Henning Freitag und Paul Mathis attend the course "Introdution to Computational Fluid Dynamics" held by the German Research School for Simulation Sciences. This will extend and strengthen the CFD-Knowledge at the EBC.

Tanja Osterhage participates in the ESysPro-Symposium "Professionalisierung in der Energieberatung - Ergebnisse einer interdisziplinären Fallstudie" which is held by the Institute of Industrial Engineering and Ergonomics at RWTH Aachen.
12th International Symposium on District Heating and Cooling
Armin Knels attends the 12th symposium on district heating and cooling, organised this year by the Tallinn University of Technology.
Internal Seminar at the Rursee
On the 1. and 2. of September the EBC held its annual internal seminar at the RWTH seminar site "Wildenhof", directly above the Rursee. Discussed were several topics regarding the structure of the EBC and the education provided by the chair while concluding workshops generated ideas concerning possible future research projects.
Needless to say, social activities and internal communications were also cultivated during the evening barbecue.
Construction of the new E.ON ERC Main Building started
After tendering and intensive planning, the construction of the new E.ON ERC main buildung started on the 1st September 2010 next to the existing testing hall. The companies "August Heine Baugesellschaft", "RKW Architekten" und "Winter - beratende Ingenieure" ambitiously aim to finish the building until August 2011.
The E.ON ERC is excited about the groundbreaking energy concept, the expected outstanding indoor climate, and the possibility to perform multiple research projects (e.g. PEBBLE).
