E.ON ERC Colloquium with Professor Frede Blaabjerg, Aalborg University, Denmark

On 2^nd May 2012, Professor Frede Blaabjerg of the Aalborg University of Denmark gave a presentation "Power Electronics - the Intelligent Interconnection of Renewables" in the frame of the E.ON Energy Research Center Colloquium, organized in cooperation with the "IEEE Student Branch Chapter Aachen". During the following get-together the numerous participants had the opportunity to discuss this topic.

Girls' Day 2012 at E.ON ERC

On 26 April, 2012, the E.ON Energy Research Center hosted a group of 16 girls from different schools around Aachen for the workshops "Energieerzeugung, -verbrauch und –einsparung in den Bereichen Elektrotechnik, Maschinenwesen, Georessourcen und Wirtschaftswissenschaften" (German national event to boost the interest of girls in the field of engineering). The 12-15 years old girls were warmly welcomed by research associates of the five institutes as well as the administration of the center. Following the welcome presentations, the students were led through an intense schedule of indoor and outdoor activities to learn more about the challenges of sustainable energy and the need for interdisciplinary work to address such challenges. The type of air flow and the velocity of air particles were shown to the girls in an experiment with small bubbles. During a quiz, they could prove on the subjects environment, energy saving and renewable energy in consideration their energy knowledge. The fifth institute of the center presented their research in the outside section of the E.ON ERC on the basis of geological characteristics.
