Girls'Day 2013 at E.ON ERC

Girls_Day 2013 am E.ON ERC

This year, the E.ON Energy Research Center again participated very successfully in “Girl’s Day”. 15 girls from Aachen and beyond got an exciting insight into Energy Research.

They passed workshops in the topics "Energy Generation , Usage and Saving in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Georesources and Economics". As part of the program the students were led through an intense schedule of indoor and outdoor activities to learn more about the challenges of sustainable energy supply and the need for interdisciplinary work to address such challenges.

In the outdoor area of the E.ON ERC the girls researched about the principles of geology. In another experiment they analyzed the type of air flow and the velocity of air particles with the help of small bubbles. The challenge of future energy supply was shown with a model of a wind farm. A further section of the E.ON ERC presented how lemons can be used to bring LEDs to light. In the framework of a quiz, the girls could proof their knowledge about environment, energy saving and renewable energy. (Picture: Participants of “Girl’s Day” during an experiment of the Institute for Power Generation and Storage System, PGS, E.ON ERC with Johannes Voss).

Energylandscape.png

As part of a cooperation project between RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum Jülich/JARA, a new database was created, that provides comprehensive overview of the main research areas in energy of the two institutions.

The core competences of all thematic areas of energy research, divided into the upper points of energy resources, conversion / generation, infrastructure, storage and usage are included in this database and stored with contacts of the experts of the respective institutes, allowing easy identification and contact to the energy experts. Access relates to the institutes internally and their external customers, who are interested in a collaboration with RWTH Aachen University or Forschungszentrum Jülich.

The inputs of all participating institutes are available now via the following link: www.energylandscape.rwth-aachen.de, Contact: contact@energylandscape.rwth-aachen.de
